Always surround
fragile items with bubble wrap, and place in a clean, (preferably new)
box.
Place breakable items in the center of the box, with at least 2-3 inches of loose fill surrounding them. Mark-out any "hazardous materials" markings from used boxes that you plan to re-use to ship items. Labels should be printed clearly, using indelible ink. (Clear tape may prevent "ink bleeding" if the package gets wet. Place a piece of paper that has the name, address and telephone number of the recipient, along with your own name, address and phone number. Items shipped by the United States Postal Service are NOT automatically insured or trackable. UPS, FedEx and Airborne Express services include insurance of $100. |
After you seal
your box, give it a good "shake". Items should not rattle around
inside the box. Most breakage occurs because the items inside the box
weren't packed tightly and with enough protective padding.
Packages sent through the United States Postal Service, FedEx, UPS and Airborne Express are processed by automatic systems. "FRAGILE" stickers and "THIS SIDE UP" notices cannot be read by these systems. This is why it is very important to pack your shipment carefully and securely. In some cases, your package may be dropped 2-4 feet during the shipping process. When in doubt, bring your package in to Village Mail & More for professional evaluation and appropriate shipping. |
